Guillermo Rigondeaux - Brand Identity

Brand Identity and logo design for ROCNATION Athlete, two time Olympic Gold medalist, WBA, WBO and The Ring world super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux.

The design process began with breaking down what Rigondeaux’s persona represents in and out of the ring. Being a Rigo fan, I was already aware of his style and knew what critical features needed to be incorporated within the design.

I understand that his Cuban roots are very important to him. And that the competitive nature that he shows in the ring, must be fueled by a powerful dedication towards the sport. Injecting those as the foundation elements within the design was essential. Onto the fine-tuning, Rigo is a technically gifted boxer with amazing footwork and reflexes. He is very sharp, constantly throwing clean and precise punches. I believe he is very balanced as a boxer: possessing both speed and power. All of these traits can be seen well implemented into the design.

At initial glance the logo design itself is very powerful as a mark. For Cuban fans, the point and star are instantly recognised. The three stripes of the Cuban flag are further incorporated within the design. The shape of the logo is both strong and dynamic which is very important within the sports industry as a whole. All of the angles in the design are just as precise and sharp, with the G and the R wrapping perfectly around a square that represents the ring. I also considered how this logo will affect the opponent psychologically when they face Rigo. I want them to be scared and intimidated, I want them to know that this mark represents going to war. There is this very military look and feel present within the logo that will aid in accomplishing this.

All of these elements put together, work to create a distinctive brand identity that portrays all of Rigondeaux’s talents as a professional athlete. The identity will help to elevate Rigo’s social media and online presence, helping him to have a consistent image that he can present to his existing fans and the new fans to come.
